The Writer’s Almanac just interviewed Minnesota’s new poet laureate, Joyce Sutphen! (Okay, one of our writers interviewed her. The website did not come to life and strike up an email conversation. I’m working on that, though.) You should go read it.
That’s right, I’m reblogging myself for promotional purposes.

Minnesota has a new Poet Laureate.
Gov. Mark Dayton on Tuesday announced that Joyce Sutphen will serve as the state’s lead poetry advocate, replacing Robert Bly. Bly, a graduate of the esteemed Iowa Writer’s Workshop and co-founder of American Writers Against the Vietnam War, was the state’s first Poet Laureate.
Sutphen is a University of Minnesota graduate who teaches literature and creative writing at Gustavus Adolphus College. She lives in Chaska.
“Two reasons keep me coming to the empty page: the desire to make a place for the glinting shard, the divine detail, and the hope that this caressing, this pressing against the visible will reveal the invisible,” she has said. “In the end, it isn’t hard: when I sit down to write a poem, one thing just leads to another.”
Joyce Sutphen has long been a favorite over at The Writer’s Almanac. Watch for more on that front soon…
